Advise · Technical Audit
An independent look at the system you have, and a written list of what to fix first.
A Technical Audit is a fixed-scope review of an existing system, site, or store: code, hosting, security, and performance. You get a written, prioritized fix list and a walkthrough call, and you own the report whether or not we do the work.
Who it’s for
- Owners who inherited a system, site, or store and don’t know what state it is in
- Teams whose site or app has become slow, fragile, or expensive to change
- Businesses choosing a platform, or about to invest in one
- Companies handing a system to a new team or vendor, or reviewing one before an acquisition
Problems we fix
What usually brings people to us
- No one can say how healthy the system really is
- Security updates, backups, and hosting that nobody has checked
- A project from another team that has stalled or gone over budget
- A platform decision with no independent view
Common reasons
Common reasons clients book an audit
Choosing a platform
Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, or nopCommerce, an ERP such as Acumatica, or a custom build: we compare the options against your catalogue, volume, team, and integrations, and recommend one in writing with the costs and trade-offs, including when staying where you are is the right call.
Rescuing a stalled or failing project
When a project from another team has stalled or gone over budget, we review the code, the plan, and what is left, then recommend whether to recover it, rebuild part of it, or stop, with the fastest realistic path forward.
Pre-acquisition or vendor-handover review
Before you buy a business, take over a system, or hand one to a new vendor, we document what is really running, what it depends on, and what it will cost to keep it healthy.
What’s included
What Technical Audit covers
- An inventory of the code, hosting, databases, integrations, and domains
- Code and dependency review
- Hosting, security, and backup review
- Performance review
- A written, prioritized fix list ranked by risk and effort
How it works
From first call to ongoing care
01
Agree the scope and access
What is reviewed, and read access to the code and hosting.
02
Review the system
Code, hosting, security, and performance.
03
Rank the findings
By risk and effort, not a generic checklist.
04
Walk you through the report
A call to go through it and answer questions.
How we charge
Fixed-fee engagement
Quoted up front as a fixed fee, credited against follow-on work if you go ahead.
What the cost depends on
- The size of the codebase and number of systems
- Hosting environments to review
- Whether a platform comparison or project-rescue plan is included
Every engagement
- A written quote before any work starts
- Changes approved in writing before they’re made
- You own your accounts, code, and content
After the work
Need ongoing care after?
A monthly care plan keeps it monitored, updated, and fixed.
No rewrite pressure
Honest findings, not a sales pitch for a rebuild
We’ll tell you honestly if part of your system needs replacing and why, but we don’t push rewrites. Most systems just need steady care.
Who you’ll work with
One point of contact, a team behind it
You get one point of contact from the first call through to ongoing care, with a small, senior team behind them doing the work. We have been building and supporting client systems since 2014, including a franchise’s operations platform and a corporate yoga company’s custom platform, each for more than a decade.
Cloudstruct was founded by Mark Dos Santos, who has also spent 15+ years leading ecommerce and technology teams in-house; his full background is on LinkedIn.
Common questions
How is the fee determined?
By the size of the system and what the audit covers. It is quoted up front as a fixed fee and credited against follow-on work if you go ahead.
Do we have to hire Cloudstruct to fix what you find?
No. You own the report and can take it to any team. If you want us to do the work, it is quoted separately in writing.
What access do you need?
Usually read access to the code and hosting. The scope, access, and fee are agreed in writing before the audit starts.
Can you take over a project that another team started?
Yes. A focused codebase and process review usually identifies what is salvageable, what needs to be rebuilt, and the fastest realistic path forward.
Which platform should we be on?
It depends on your catalogue size, how much control you need over code and hosting, and who will run the store day to day. A platform-selection audit gives you a specific recommendation and the reasons.
How is this different from Discovery & Scoping?
An audit reviews a system you already have. Discovery plans something new.
